Cilia, Bajada out of the frame for Georgia match
Trevor Cilia and Shaun Bajada are out of
contention for a berth in Malta's 18-man squad
ahead of tomorrow's game against Georgia.
National coach Dusan Fitzel has informed the
two young midfielders that their services will
not be required for the final match of the
International Football Tournament.
With the squad augmented by the arrival yesterday
of three foreign-based players, namely, Luke Dimech,
Justin Haber and Michael Mifsud, Fitzel
decided to trim the number of players called
for international duty.
Cilia, 23, made his debut on Saturday,
playing the first half in the 2-0 defeat to Moldova
but Bajada's chances of earning his first cap for
Malta have been hindered by injury.
Meanwhile, Chester defender Dimech and Haber,
of French club US Quevilly, had their first
training sessions under Fitzel yesterday.
Mifsud is due to meet the Czech coach for the
first time today. It transpired yesterday that Norwegian
top-division club Lillestrom were reluctant to release
the 24-year-old Mifsud, citing a slight injury.
However, the MFA insisted that Mifsud be allowed to honour
his call-up. Lillestrom eventually relented on their initial
stance but only agreed to release Mifsud 48 hours
before the match as stipulated in the FIFA regulations.
